We had some issues the first couple of weeks with vyvanse but were able to tolerate it, my son also takes zoloft for the moodiness. we are on 50 mg now and are having a little side effects but not bad, aggressiveness is opne of them. we just upped his zoloft today. Thanks for sharing. It looks like the first couple of weeks will be though for us. I hope everything works fine for you.

Sometimes when the dose is too high or its not the right med for your child, he might experience emotional outbursts. When my son was first diagnosed he was started on ritilan and had the same type of emotional outbursts. Once the dose was adjusted and he was on the right dose for him such a side effect ceased. The dose and/or med might have to be changed until the right med and dose is found for your child. With stimulant med's its very individual and as far as a med or dose change, that is commonalty seen around puberty time when hormones are changing. Constant med changes are also seen in those who truly don't have adhd and have been misdiagnosed or perhaps there is something more going on that causes a bad reaction to stimulant medications. Other than that, some children are just not responsive to ADHD med's.

With regard to how long one has to take ADHD med's, again its an individual choice because ADHD is a chronic condition but with the right interventions one can develop good coping skills. Life is always a struggle when one has ADHD and at some point one has to decide whether they can mange the symptoms off medications. Everyone has different family dynamics and circumstances so the decision to continue med's or not is very individual down the road. Good luck and welcome to the board

I am very thankful for this message board. It is usually hard to get answers from the doctors about what to expect, how to react. With your valueable comments, I can see the whole picture on this though road.

I have a 4,5 year-old son and he was diagnosed with ADHD. We started to use Vyvanse (30mg) yesterday. It was his first time for an ADHD medicine. He was very emotional and aggressive yesterday and same today. He also said that he was not feeling good, he was cold and his stomach and chest were hurting. We went to his doctor for them to check his vital signs and everything was OK. Anyone experienced these kind of changes for the first time? I wonder if this is normal or it is because of the amount of the medicine or maybe it is not the right medicine. After we find the right medicine and the right amount, do we use it for him for the rest of his life or we need to change the medicine from time to time? Any comment is appreciated.
