Meds. HELP please | ADHD Information
My son has been on Ritalin La for several years now. The medication has worked wonderfully.. Almost no side effects at all. Heres the problem the Dr said he isnt comfortable upping his dosage again ... It is time to switch to a new drug because he shouldnt go any higher for his weight and age ect.. He was on concerta for about 2 weeks and that did not work at all!!!!!!!!! I mean if anything it made it worse.. My Dr is kind of pushing Daytrana Im sort of leaning toward Adderall XR . Im terrified of changing meds. Has anyone been on ritalin with good results then had to switch??What did you switch to and what was your experience???? PLEASE HELP valzway, Daytrana and RLA are both methylphedinate, so that should be closer the the RLA than Adderall. My daughter did fairly well on RLA also, the other she did great on was Daytrana! It is a long acting med, minimal to no rebound for her. Our issues were zero appetite and the long time to kick in. When she was on it though, I'd put it on her while she was sleeping, which is what I do wil all her meds anyway. The reason I was concerned about trying Daytrana is because I heard that it was incosistant...Such as it may work for a few days but then it wont for a few.. Have you experienced that??
We are currently on vyvanse and doing very well. My son tolerate meds well and the worst side effects on most meds has been appetite suppression and insomina. The vyvanse has the been very good, the side effects have been much lower. My son eats well and sleeps better than he did on Adderal XR. My son has gone through a huge growth spurt growing almost a foot in the past year. He has been on vyvanse for a year at the end of this month.
My son will be 13 in November, he is 5'5" and weighs 125-128 lbs.
no we found it very consistent and it worked fine, but she was SO thin and lost weight, I opted to go non stimulant for a while at that time. When we did go back to stimulants I would've gone back with Daytrana, but she preferred a pill and she is almost 14 and should have some say, so that is what we did,I don't know what dosages you are using for each, but it is possible that the concerta dosage is too low. Ritalin LA and Concerta use different release methods. Concerta release 22% initially while Ritalin LA releases 50%. If you compare 27 Mg concerta vs. 20 mg of Ritalin LA, the initial release is 6 mg vs. 10 mg. That can make a big difference.
We are on Vyvance 50mg my DS is 10 and doing well. we don't have the bad side effects we got from Focalin. I am happy with the outcome so far. I was scarred to try Adderal because of side effects, our psych doesn't use it much. He reccommened the Vyvanse because you can open it and mix with water or soda and drink it as my son's anxiety has the better of him when it comes to taking pills.
