Great News! My son is doing well on the Vyvance also. Hooray for something that works.

What great news!!! It's amazing that our children can do so well when their meds are adjusted properly. It kind of gives us well needed breathers.

I bet your son is basking in the good feedback from school. I hope they are laying it on thick!!! I pray that this med works for him for a long long time.

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!  WE ALL NEED TO HEAR POSITIVE NEWS SOMETIMES!

That's great!!  I'm so glad things are going so well for you guys!!!

Thanks for sharing your good news about the meds.  Valuable lesson for some of us.  It's not only about the drugs but also the entire package.  Parental attitude and persistance, openness to new doctors (our behavior doctor is great), and realizing that every kid is diferent.  My son on Focalin XR versus my son on Strattera is night and day.  Our children rely on us to aid them develop the tools to be the best that they can be.  I can totally relate to that wonderful report about behavior.  I hate those darn phone calls about problems, as well as those unexpected blowups about insignificant issues that can really test a parent's patence.  Keep on keepin' on.

My previous post from 7/12 indicated that my son's Concerta dosage had been upped to 36mg.  Well, that was apparently too high!  He had a couple of days of horrid behavior, and then the school actually sent him home mid day because he was so out of control.  He had said to me that morning that he hated me because I told him to take a bite of his breakfast.  My son is normally overly loving - annoyingly so - so that was a huge difference.

I called the dr and they switched him to Vyvanse 30mg.  Oh man!  What a difference!  Not only has his behavior improved dramatically, but he is asleep 20 minutes after going to bed, and he is eating!  He had 6 tacos for dinner the other night!  As you all know these 2 things have been MAJOR struggle points for him.  Today I got his daily report home, and not only did he have all smiley faces, but the teacher actually wrote that - and I can't believe I am saying this - but he DID NOT require redirection AT ALL today!!!!  I can't believe it!

I think the Vyvanse just agrees with him more.  Also I have noticed he hasn't complained of his stomach hurting once since the switch.  On the Concerta he would complain of stomach pain off and on - I think when the time released meds would dose again.

Also, our doctor referred us to a psychologist to help with the behavior, and to help with the 504 for the upcoming school year.  It took a lot of work, but I finally found one that is taking new patients and takes our insurance!  WOOHOO!  And, even better than that, his first appointment is tomorrow - no long wait!  YIPPEE!

Just wanted to update you all and let you know that things are finally going well!  Let's hope it keeps up!  YAY!
