I’m Bored...

My daughter had been driving me nuts with the "I'm bored..." constantly this summer.   I mentioned it to our therapist last week.   He had a great suggestion.   Anytime they tell you they are bored, put them to work.   They will learn pretty quickly to stop coming to you and looking for things on their own.   I explained to my girls the new plan and gave them each one warning before I was going to put them to work.

Well today,  my youngest (11.5 with ADHD) comes skipping into my office starts off with "I'm bored..." pauses for a split second when she realizes what she said and quickly add "where is the guitar DVD?"  It was so cool to see that she "got" it.  It was also really funny the way it all transpired, it just cracked me up.  I'm still make me chuckle thinking about it.

If you have kids that are driving you nuts with the "I'm Bored..." give this a try.  It's worked great for us.   I'm still waiting for one of them to slip up, so I can put them to work.

What a great idea!!  I love it!!

That is so funny!!!

THIS IS GREAT!!! Thanks for sharing.

MY daughter 13 with ADHD is doing a summer session in school so she isnt done until Friday, but by Tuesday she'll be bored.......she's going to regret telling me !!!!

We actually have an "i'm bored" box here.  I wrote things on slips of paper like - dust the mini blinds - clean your room - sort your clothes - vaccum - etc.  If I hear "i'm bored" then you have to draw a slip from the box.  I started it with my dd when she was 6 - she is almost 13 now and I can assure you - once I informed her about the box - she hasn't said she was bored one time in 7 years!  hehe! What a great idea!

When my oldest started puberty that was his saying for awhile, and my youngest has taken it and ran with it since.  Great idea's about the box.  I usually tell him I would be more bothered and inclined to do something about his boredom if I didn't hear it a thousand times a day.  I usually tell him to go clean his room and that will stop it for awhile.  I am definitely going to put chores in a box and call it the boredom reliever box.

But what if I'm the one that is bored?

I get bored as much as my kids and if there is anything better to do I will forgo the housework for the fun

I love the "bored box". We are going to try that or just assigning chores ......

Will I have to participate too?
