my son is almost 7 and now taking concerta 27mg. at first he wasnt eating very much. he wasnt hungry. then he would get hungry after the meds started to wear off and would eat a little more than normal in the evening. well now he is eating breakfast and lunch like he used to before meds but when its dinner time OMG he is starving and eats soooo much. im not worried about him gaining a little bit of weight because he seems to have a very high metabolism and is pretty skinny. but i am just so amazed at how much he can eat and still be hungry. last night he ate 2 huge plates of spagetti and said he was still hungry. today he did the same thing. he finished his first plate of spagetti and wanted another. then a few minutes later he was asking if he could have anything else. we took the kids out for ice cream and when we got home he says he was still hungry but it was bed time so i told him he could have something in the morning. the truth is that i was worried to give him anymore food tonight. im pregnant and couldnt even eat that much. he isnt overly hungry through out the day or in the morning just after it wears off. he had originally lost a few pounds when we started meds almost 2 months ago so its nice to see him eating but should i be worried about how much he is eating? esp since he is eating normally though out the day now (breakfast and lunch). is this normal? does this start to taper off once he is used to the meds? we just upped his dose to 27mg a few weeks ago. he does go to the dr on aug 5th so i'll talk with the dr about it too but just wondering in the meantime. he has only been like this for about a week now. maybe a growing spurt?? thanks in advance for the advice!

SOunds like he is a growing boy whose body has adjusted to the meds. SOme kids do not have appetite suppression from meds, some kids , mine included have appetite increase. Please let him eat, it sounds like a growth spurt. If you restrict his food, he may start hording food in his room. Try giving him a high protein snack at bedtime. The protein should satisfy him and help him sleep.
Do mention it to the doctor. The doctor can check his growth and tell you if it a growth spurt. And, if necessary, run a few tests to check it out.
My son had one med (provigil/modifinal) that increased his appetite, he was part of a study. He gained 35 pounds in 6 months. We stopped that med two years ago and he has gained 5 pounds but grown 12 inches since then. The irony of this was that med gave us the best symptom control.
