| Risperdal? | |||

Hello....has anyone ever used Risperdal for Adult ADHD, and has it worked well? I was put on it because it's like I have a CD player going on in my head that can't be turned off- so music is constantly, uncontrollably playing, and a family member convinced me that Satan is causing my ADHD. I started to believe him to the point where I felt my entire existence was a sort of Cartesian illusion, and I felt extremely insecure if I didn't have a blessed rosary on my person constantly. So far it hasn't been working. Actually, I haven't been responding to any medication I've been on thus far- not even Ritalin or the anti-psychotic "stops" the CD player that keeps going off in my head. The "music" turns on when I'm trying to concentrate or are taking an exam, which is probably associated with my Inattentive ADHD. Any comments or suggestions? "Risperdal, or risperidone, is an atypical antipsychotic used for treating schizophrenia and psychotic disorders. It helps manage schizophrenia's "positive symptoms" such as visual and auditory hallucinations, delusions, and thought disturbances." (taken from healthyplace.com) Risperdal is used off label for ADHD and Bipolar. My daughter was on it for about 8 months for aggressive behavior (believed to be assosciated with ADHD or Bipolar). Since she was only 4 at the time she started this med there isn't really an accurate diagnosis. I worked really well at curbing her aggressive behavior and getting her to sleep at night. She had to stop taking it because of excessive weight gain which is unfortuneately a side effect. We switched to Abilify which is in the same family because it had less of a chance of having the weight issue. This worked even better for her but she again had weight issues. We are currently trying another medication which is not an antipsychotic with mixed reviews so far. Since it has been less than a month I am going to give it some more time especially since we can increase the dosage. She did not have problems with constant noise in her head though so I don't have anything encouraging to say in that regard. You don't say how long you have been on it or if your physician has changed the dosage to see if you have a better response. My suggestion is to contact your doctor and tell him what you have told us. Best wishes you find something that works for you. -Gettingagrip- |
