nose picking | ADHD Information
For my dd, who is 7 and not adhd, I used vick's vapo rub at night and put a little under her nose and on the end of her nostrils (not inside her nose). For some reason she liked the smell and when I started using it during the day, she stopped picking.I did an internet search that a psych. said to tell kids the bug story, so i thought it was worth a shot, the kids really make fun of him and won't have anything to do with him.joshsmom- I have the same problem with my 10 year old. he constantly picks his nose and eats it AAAARRRGGGHHHHH! We use constant reminders and explain over and over the health and social issues this brings on. At least I kno I am not the only one.can anyone give me a suggestion to get my son who is 9 to stop picking his nose, the kids make fun of him at school for this and his last teacher was saying he would then put it in his mouth. I've told him how gross it is, i've told him he could get bug eggs in his stomach, etc, yet he still does it.
he probably doesnt even realize he's doing it. This is such a tough one. My daughter picked her nose for a long itme too. I don't think telling him he;ll get bug eggs in his stomach will really help. It's more habit and consistent reminders is a better way to go. I'm sorry you guys dealing with this SO many kids do, and it is a tough habit to break.
btw, my daughter is almost 14 and doesnt pick her nose anymore...........at least not in front of me .
I like that solution with Vicks vapo rub. My son picks, but I don't think he really does it in school (I hope not!) We've tried to get him to stop and he knows it's gross/unacceptable. We have joked that he's doing the ultimate in recycling though!
