| Just been diagnosed Ive got questions | |||

Hey everyone, I'm new here and I've just been diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed FocalinXR 10 mg's and I have a few questions. First off, my doctor told me to start taking 1 capsule in the morning to see how that did, then she said to move up to two a day, if I felt I needed more, then three a day if I felt I needed more. (we're trying to find the right dosage) I did the one a day for about 4 days, but it wore off within 4 hours. So i moved to two a day about 2 days ago. The first day I had two no problems. However, yesterday I took two and I noticed a couple of hours after my second dose my heart was racing, I had chest pains, and a little sweating. So I got a little worried, and thought maybe I should go back to one a day. Then I remembered, I also drink a lot of coffee and was wonder if maybe I was just overstimulated? I like the Focalinxr because it keeps me focused, and I was wondering what you guys thought of this, and if you think I should cut out the coffee? Hi, It takes a few days to get used to it as your body has to cope with stimulants. I would avoid the coffee, it affects some people but not others so try and keep off it untill you feel safe and comfortable on meds. Your first few days seem normal to me, though its easy to freak out about it! I m still able to feel my pulse at times, its nothing to worry about as long as you're being looked after by a professional every month or so. The other symptoms should calm off, but keep an eye any way!! I would also make sure you are healthy (stable blood pressure, at least decent resting heart rate, etc...) Because I do know that many ADHD drugs will have a significant effect on those two things particularly, but I don't know exactly how all drugs work for all people.I agree, when I got my meds, I had to go for an ECG and have my blood pressure taken. I was told by my psychiatrist that this has to be done now every three months so that I can be monitored properly. I'm not sure how this works in the states, but it was free on the NHS. |
