Hi,
I know a few of you have alot of experience with Stattera. Here is my question.
My ds is on 20 to 30mg of Ritalin. During the summer I have been giving two or three doses of short acting so that I can control better the dose and times. I find he eats a much better lunch and dinner on the short acting. As soon as the morning wears off around noon, he is hungry eats a good lunch and I give him another dose. He is also on 50mg of Zoloft.
We started on Strattera about 6 weeks ago. He is 11 years old and weighs about 81lbs. We started at 18mg, 25mg and now at 40mg. In general, he has done well and I think it's an improvement. We changed the time of giving the Strattera to the evening because I felt he might be a bit sluggish from it. We just started giving the Strattera in the evening four nights ago. He is an excellent athlete and at our swimming championships he did terribly. His times were as much as ten seconds worse than his seed times. His seed times were prior to Strattera. Not that big of a deal ( I am not a crazy sports mom) but I worry about his health. Can Strattera cause sluggishness?? Should it be given at night? Does this dose sound correct. He has received alot of his success in his life through his sports and he doesn't need to start failing at that too.
His doc wants us to stop the Ritalin to see how he does just on the Strattera but I don't think it will be great. I have noticed that on the Strattera he needs less of a stimulant. But, of course this is summertime and who knows what will happen once school begins.
His target dose is 44-66, so it could be that he's a tad low on the Strattera dose. My daughter is about the same size as your son and she takes 60 plus 10mg longacting methylin twice a day. Hard to judge by her as she's not very physical to begin with.
Giving it at night should be fine. Maybe if he goes up in dose you could split the dose. Say if he took 50 he could take 25 in the morning and 25 at bedtime??? Just a suggestion.
