stunted growth and stims?

I just got back from a very upsetting doctor's appt with my daughter.  Basically she hasn't gained any weight in one year's time and now her height is effected as well.  He wants her to see a nutritionist (we've already seen 2), an endocrinologist and begin taking periactin (appetite stimulant).  He will follow-up in one month and if she hasn't gained any weight will take her off of her stims (focalin XR in the am and focalin short acting in the pm).  This is a child who CANNOT function in any capacity without the helps of stims.  I will do what it takes to help her gain the weight but I'm just feeling so down about it right now.  Last year was a horrific year (she was off of the stims due to tics).  We have finally gotten back on track and now this....My poor baby....Anyone had a similar experience??

i have not experienced this b/c my son just started meds 2 months ago but i am very worried about it! he has lost weight and is now in the 15 % for weight. i just wanted to ask u, does your daughter eat reg meals?? i am curious if he should still gain weight with reg meals and a little extra or if its like the meds are blocking there bodies from gaining any weight from what they eat? im sorry i dont have any help to offer. i hope she can get her wieght up. i know what u mean about being worried about not having the help of the meds! good luck to u both!

Yes, she does eat regular meals but sometimes it's hard to get her to "stay" at the table (she's like a jumping bean!!).  Also, she is a very healthy eater (who knew that would be a  bad thing!).  She prefers salads and fruits to junky foods.  I guess I just have to make sure that every bite counts!

My son has had both tics and appetite/growth issues with stims. He is currently off meds to gain weight, he has gained some, his tics stopped completely, but he can not function well without the meds, he is terribly hyper . His tics are mild, and I hope that once he starts meds again we don't have worse tic issues. I am a bit scared about this but I am really looking forward to resume the meds, so he can go back to have more control.
