Med dosage question | ADHD Information
We take our DD off meds on occasion-- one weekend day or this summer
from time to time when she asked (not every time she asked!). We also
reduced the dosage for the summer to increase her appetite to let her
enjoy eating more. It has worked fine for the summer for us.
Ask your docter or pharmacist to be sure.
We do adjust dosage based on situation.
Our DD has been on the patch for about 9 monthes now. we like the
flexibility of putting it on later in day- 9-10 a.m. vs. usual 6:30- 7
a.m. during school year- and taking it of about the same time which for
us has been about 2:00 p.m.-- this is a relatively short period of time
and thus smaller overall dosage but it works for us.
Good luck.
my daughter takes Methylin ER twice a day, 5:00am and noon. When she is not in school we only give it once around 9:00am. No problems with that. She eats fine on it, but I don't see nay reason to give her more than she needs, so we opt for the once a day when that's all she needs...............My ds has been on ADHD med less than a year, so we are still learning and trying to adjust.
I've heard so much about taking kids off meds for the weekend, summers etc.
Are there any adverse effects of not giving the exact same dose every single day?
We have found that ds needs the regular dose during school, but 1/2 a dose works well when we are at home and there is no demand on him for concentration. Is it okay to give (or not) a dosage based on the situation?

My thinking on that is this: you and your child are the best one to answer that question. As an adult taking these meds, I will adjust down based on the situation. Some doctors don't like patients to vary the dose (performance medicating). My variations are always down, never up!
