Focalin XR Question | ADHD Information

My son was on adderall xr for 2.5 years at which point we switched to Vyvance. This was becuase he felt like a zombie. We just went to the dr. and he wanted to switch him to Focalin XR. His concern is that my son lost 2 pounds this year and since staring meds has dropped from the 50 percentile in weight to under 10%. How long does it take to know if the Focalin XR is going to work? We did a week at 5 mg which my son said didn't work and we've done 2 days at 10 mg. I already had his teacher call me and it's only the 5th day of school. Anyone with any help would be so appreciated!

My son started on 5mg of Focalin XR back in May - the change was within about a week. We had to up the dosage to 10mg of Focalin XR in July because while it was working well, he still needed something to help keep him calm.

So I'd say give it another day or so but if you don't see any noticeable changes than I'd call the doctor back. As far as the weightloss, while it DOES seem dramatic, it could of also been a natural fluctuation in your son's normal weight patterns.

I will say that my son has a co-exsisting diagnosis of High-Functioning Autism if that makes a difference. He's 9years old
