my son is on vyvanse 30mg. it lasts 10-12 hours hardly any rebound some days none at all. he has probs eating but he will if we keep telling him or he eats later in the day around 7pm. he has not been on metadate though so i odnt know about the transition. we were using concerta 27mg. tried adderall and it did nothing. it took a few days for him to get adjusted to the vyvanse. it takes about an hour to work in the morning so for a few days he was really hyper now he is fine and the first week he kinda moped around but now he is also fine and doesnt do that. i say its worth a shot. u can always try something else if it doesnt work. good luck to u. sorry i dont know about the metadate. and i also wanted to say how horrible that the teacher did that!! we also had a bad teacher last yr in kindergarten that used to give him time out 3 min each time he interupted and keep him in time out during lunch. he would have 1 hr 30 min time outs. we had to home school him the rest of the yr when we found out and it makes me want to cry that ppl can actually do these things to children. that was b4 meds and now he is in a new school. so far so good!!

Hello there to all. My son is 9 1/2 and is on Metadate cd. He tried it last year and he was on 40mg and it was great. He was gagging on the pills and it was a battle each morning. Then Daytrana came out. We loved it until it started itching so bad he could not stand that eithter. Then the dreaded day it came off and we had the teacher tell the class about him having adhd without our permission. Long story. Bad rest of the year at school. He has now started a new one and we love it. He started acting really wierd on the daytrana. Telling on him self about things that did not matter, wanting me to know everything that was going on in his head. telling me things he used to do that he thought were bad when he was 3. Crazy stuff. Dr. pulled the daytrana and we started back on the Metadate cd at 20 mg. I did not want to overdose and wanted to start small. Did nothing. Went to 30 still nothing. We are now at the 40 again its been 2 weeks and I still am not seeing a change. He weighs 53 lbs. Skinny and tall. On the other drugs he had no appetite at all. He is now still having an appetite which I THINK means its still not high enough dosage. I have not noticed the calmness like he used to have with the daytrana. How much higher should we go dosage wise for his age and heighth? Has anyone had any luck going from Metadate CD to the Vyvanse? Should I wait more than the 2 weeks? I don't know how long it takes to get the metadate in the system and regulated. He has told me that he is still talking alot in class, so I know its not working. Just wanted to know if I have not given it enough time, should I up the dose, to what dose and or should I try the Vyvanse? I do know that his metadate if working at all is done by at least 2:00 right now so I know something is up. Thank you for any help or advice you can give.My dd started out on metadate cd originally, she went off the wall with it. It made her really aggressive and mean to everyone around her. For obvious reasons we took her off immediately. She was put on Vyvanse, 30 mg. It was a miracle pill for her. She went from not being able to focus at all in class to doing so well she is now being considered for the gifted program. It seems to take a while to settle into her system and at the present moment we are increasing her dose to 40 mg, but I swear by the pill and there was no problem switching from metadate to vyvanse at all. Dosage isn't based on age, height, or weight, so don't worry about that aspect. My 8-1/2 year old has been taking Metadate CD 60 mg for nearly a year now. My son switched from Focalinxr to Vyvanse and it has been great for us. the Metadate is out of the system in 24 hrs. that's how long I would wait. by the way we love the Vyvanse so far, been a year.If the metadate is working you should know right away. If you are seeing no results you need to go up or try something else. Strattera and other non stimulant meds may take up to 6 weeks but metadate is immediate. 2 weeks on a stimulant is PLENTY of time to know if it's working for him at the current dose. If sytmpom control is not good I'd try going up again before you switch meds altogether. If you don't have side effects, IMO giving one med a solid try before switching meds altogether is best. Then you can just cross it off your list, not always sort of wonder if you should've just "tweaked the dose".
