| Clonidine | |||

My son just got prescribed Clonidine (he is currently on Focalin during the day.) Since he was having a rough time evenings, she prescribed the Clonidine. Last night was the first night he had it (she said to give it to him about an hour before bedtime.) Well, it did not help much, he did fall asleep about a half hour earlier than he did before, but I have concerns. First, he said he felt tickly inside his body and couldn't relax- he did say he always feels that way at night so it probably has nothing to do with the Clonidine. The other thing was that he woke up at 2 a.m and didn't go back to sleep until after 4 a.m. That has NEVER happened. Do you think it's a fluke, or might it be something to do with the Clonidine? He's on a really low dose... half of a 0.1 mg tablet. If he still has sleep issues after another day or two might it be the dose is too low? His psychiatrist is going on maternity leave starting Friday; I want to give this a couple of days, and am not sure how long this stuff takes to work properly. Thanks for any thoughts. Hello my daughter has took this for 3 years, it works wonders for her. She takes 0.1 mg and falls asleep in about a hour and sleeps for about 10 hours, however, she wakes up for drinks as this is a side affect. It also, may need to be upped and give it a couple weeks. I also have a child on focalin in the day as well as zoloft. He has always been more of a "night owl" and the focalin just makes matters worse. I am currently giving him melatonin, however, it does not seem to work consistently. I am looking for more parents who have put their child on clonidine so as to hear their experiences before I put my child on it. I hesitate to add another med to his routine, but I think the lack of sleep makes his adhd worse. |
