That sounds like my son. He hasn't been diagnosed because I'm not yet interested in medication at this age and he does fine in school (spent a little time in office but not much) - but I have ADHD and some of my younger cousins/uncle/grandfather. He is almost 5 and in SK so most of school is play/colouring, etc - things he likes. I don't know how he'll do next year when he has to sit in a desk everyday and not talk continually.
He is usually good with his friends - but violent with me if he doesn't get his way and some other grownups. Or sometimes he is violent just because he thought it would be fun (the other day he punched me in the abdomen hard enough I was crying and he started crying because he didn't mean to hurt me- he just can't control himself at times). And I don't know the last time we went to a restaurant without a total meltdown - going out in public is not a fun experience.
You could contact her teacher and ask if she is having any trouble - perhaps she is not hyper/violent at school but is having problems daydreaming or just not paying attention - which could show ADD at school.
In order for ADHD to be diagnosable, the symptoms must be present in two settings, for example, school and at home. The ADHD child can't hold it together in school. There are many reasons your dd may be having anger problems. If your dd's behavior is improving, continue with the counseling. Your first visit with a psychiatrist is a consultation so discuss your concerns at that time and unless your dd is acting out in school, that's the only time the psychiatrist would require their feedback. Good luckMy DD is so angry and defiant at home. When she doesn't get her way she kicks, hits, etc. We have tried time outs but she still has a hard time controlling her anger. She is also hyper and when we go places it is hard to keep her by me and she is also a dare devil. She also gets aggresive with her friends. But at school she is great and I have never had any problems.
We have started counseling and I have to say things are a lot better. We are trying postive discipline but we still get temper tantrums, hitting, etc. She also will be going to a class with other kids on how to handle her anger.
I made an appointment with a psychiatrist for her but it will involve them contacting the school and since she is having no trouble there I am not sure if I should go that route yet. What should I do? Thank you for any responses.

My son,10's school knows everything about him and his diagnosis as the school dissagreed until they read the dx papers they said he was crazy litterly. He was promptly removed from that class and a 504 was aranged Immediatly. His teacher last year was the best she really worked with him and he had a great year. I am hoping for another great teacher. Don't worry about the school this is a legal thing and they probably want the dx in writing before they make accommodations.Hi there

Thank you for your replys. We went to a gymnastics class and the coach mentioned my ds getting aggressive with the other girls. We also went to my in-laws this weekend and she was just awful. She was hitting everyone, beating up on her cousins, etc. They even think she has adhd and talked to me about contacting my pediatrician. I feel like I don't want to go anywhere until we get this under control. It is so frustrating.
