Morning Mania! | ADHD Information

You could wake him early and give him his meds, then have him go back to sleep (if he will).  wake my daughter for meds at 5:00, she takes it goes back to sleep for an hour and when she wakes up the meds have kciked in. My girlfriends son has autism and he takes Adderral and does the same, works like magic. Only helpful if your child will go back to sleep, most do.

My DS, almost age 9, has been on stimulant meds since he was 6.

Early mornings until meds kick in (1 hour for Adderall) are just absolutely CRAZY at our house  .  He has total disregard for people, things, etc.  He wakes everyone up whether its 5:45 or 7:00am. He throws anything he sees - socks, balls, pillows, shoes (not in anger).  He dives off the furniture.  He irritates, irritates, irritates all of us.  He is fly off the handle about everything.  Reward and punishment have absolutely no effect - he can't even process what we are saying.  After meds wear off (3:30pm), we have similar behavior but not too this extent.

I don't remember his ADHD behavior being this extreme before he was on meds.  We had a lot of temper tantrums, constant talking, and very active.  I just wonder if this is not caused by the stimulant drugs.  Could this mean Bi-Polar instead of ADHD (family history)?  He is typiically a sullen, angry type.

Help!!!  Anyone else with similar experiences?  Any advice or things that have worked.

Thanks!

How about making him run in a circle for five minutes? Or an indoor trampoline? Do you have enough room to create an indoor kid exercise room?
