We started my 9 yr old son on Strattera.  Total bust.  New tics emerged, and his stomach was upset all the time.  We switched to 5 mg focalin xr early this year.  It has been working very well.  Just upped it to 10 mg.  We also do 1.5 mg of clonidine at night.  Super drag, but it is not uncommon for your child to be a guinea pig while you try to find the best med and dose.  I have not heard of any one mixing Strattera with focalin until you posted.Just wondering if anyone has had the same experience with meds. My daughter is 7 and in 2nd grade. We have been trying to get her meds straight since the beginning of 1st grade. We started with Concerta then Vyvanse with no luck. She was having horrible rebounding and depression. Then we were introduced to Focalin XR. On the Focalin she seemed to be more like herself not as withdrawn etc. The only issue was it was wearing off way too soon. So then the dr. decided to give her another XR at lunch. So, she was taking 10mg in the morning then 5mg at lunch. She seemed to be doing okay, but I noticed that she had no drive or motivation for much of anything. I spoke with the director of the summer program she attended and she agreed. She said sometimes when they went to the pool she would just sit on the side and watch. This person also new my child before medication. I called her Dr. last week and he suggested me to give her 5mg Focalin XR in the morning and Strattera at lunch. We started the Strattera today and she fell asleep way before her bedtime and is now up with a stomach ache and vomitting. (she only vommited once and said she feels better). My questons are Is this typical with the strattera and should I continue to give it to her until I speak with her Dr? Also, has anyone ever heard of Strattera being used this way in conjunction with Focalin XR? It seems like everything I have read you usually take it 2x's a day. Thanks for reading this long post. I would love to hear anyone else experience with the Strattera. I am not feeling very confident about it. Thanks again!! i am sure I have a bunch of misspelled words, but were is spell check??? hi. Yes Strattera can cause stomach issues and drowsiness especially during the ramp period. Maybe you could ask about giving it to her at bedtime. This was she'll be sleepy at sleep time. It should pass. My daughter takes Strattera and a stimulant and has been for over 6 months. It's common practice. the Strattera allows you to use a lower dose of stimulant to hopefully decrease side effects without losing symptom control.
