I know that ADHD can be disqualifying for someone trying to joining the military, but what if it is diagnosed after you are already in the military? In the national guard soldiers visit civilian doctors (healthcare is not provided by or affiliated with the army)-- so what impact would a diagnosis of ADHD and a prescription for ADHD mediction have on the soldier's military service, security clearance, etc? well, my best advice would be for you to call your local recruiting office of if you are already in the service, ask your superior officer. I know they will not throw you out, but there might be some conditions. I don't know. BUT... I have to correct you on the information you have put up. I want to let people know that individuals trying to join the military ARE NOT DISQUALIFIED because of ADHD and/or taking medications for ADHD. When this subject comes up often here and I have done some research, several times, and if a person is ADHD, you can still enlist but the rule states you have to be medication free for one year. Now, I know of several people that have ADHD and have taken medications all their lives and in listed. They informed their requiting officer they are on meds for ADHD and the officer told them to stop taking it 2 weeks to a month before they leave for boot camp. So, PLEASE, let people know they can still in list and serve this GREAT nation whether or not they have ADHD. Personally, I think that ADHDers would be better because of the fact we don't need as much sleep and we have a higher IQ. And not to mention the higher learning curve and incredible energy. lol I always wanted to join the reserves, b ut i knew there was something wrong with me medically, and I was diagnosed with ADHD, and then i knew right there thats what it was. It would be way too hard for me to make it through basic without my Adderall. It must be tough for you. |
