Venting .... | ADHD Information

Dear BRTSQD3- Jon is 1 and a half grades behind. If I left him in school he would just get further and further behind. Teachers that have 25 students don't have the time to make sure one student is on track. Plus- with your son feeling like he has no friends, it sounds as though he can't concentrate on the learning. There are homeschooling groups you can join for the socialization and the parents are pretty good at keeping the children from picking on the others. Keep us posted...

Hi y'all. Haven't really posted anything about Jon in a while. He is doing well being homeschooled. I hope to have him up to 3rd grade level by January or February. He missed a lot of school when he was misdiagnosed this year and had to be hospitalized for the meds they gave him.

Well- supposedly we found a doctor willing to handle Jon's adhd medical care. She is caring and careful and we have been trying to complete all the medical work she wanted done before she would take him. I just don't think I can keep doing those 8 hour round trips to Miami for his care.Anyway, we had the liver tests (pediatric garstroenterologist), the chest xray, the eeg that came out abnormal but a pediatric cardiologist said it was OK. Now, all I have to do is get them all to send the info to the psychiatrist so she can prescribe Jon's meds to him. No matter how many times I have called they never fax or send the correct paperwork. Plus the hospital in Miami said they misplaced Jon's paperwork.

Finally, the psychiatrist was faxed the eeg. Unfortunately it was the eeg that showed the abnormalities. What is it with these people? Don't they realize that this is sheer incompetence. But tell it to the doctor and you will be shown the door. It is their staff over their patients!!!

There, I've vented! Just want to also say hello to everyone. This homeschooling is very very time consuming but very very rewarding.

The psychiatrist did see Jon although she wouldn't prescribe anything and said he is a bright boy who is growing like a weed. She also wanted to know when I would be sending him back to school since he was doing so well. Then she looked at me and said that he was doing so well because it was almost one-on-one. She realizes that our children with adhd need more than a 1:25 ratio in public and even private schools!

thats great to hear he is doing well and especially homeschooling. i've seriously considered pulling trent out and doing that for him this year. but i just don't know that i could get him where he needs to be. because he's so far behind as it is. but i just hate that he goes to school feeling like he has no friends :(.

I totally know what you mean about incompetent medical staff etc. Good luck, I hope they get everything sent to the psych that needs to be so that he can get the meds he needs.

Glad to hear he is doing so well , other that the eeg thing. I could never homeschool I can't imagine doing it, what a job. Keep us updated!
