| Strattera + stimulant | |||

A few years ago, I took 60mg of Ritalin, but had to stop because it exacerbated my anxiety (I also have GAD). My doc recommended Strattera to me, but admitted that it wasn't as widely effective across the ADD population as the conventional stimulants. My question: could I take xx mg of Strattera and a lower dosage of Ritalin/Adderall/Concerta that wouldn't trigger my anxiety? Has anyone had success taking these two classes of medication in tandem?I don't have any personal experience with it, but a friend of mine does. Her son is 8 and has been on a combination of strattera and focalin in the past and now strattera and daytrana. You can definitely take both. YUP! My daughter takes Methylin ER + Strattera. Very succesfully. Best med combination she's taken. We've had to really play wiht the timing, but we've got it down now. She suffers terribly with stims alone. Increased anxiety, tics, appetite suppression. So we tried Strattera alone for a while and she was even keeled, less impulsive, somewhat more focused, but not quite enough for school. So we added 10 mg of Methylin ER and she did good. Now we do 10 mg of Methylin ER twice a day. 5:00 am and 12:00. I just recently moved her Strattera to bedtime since she was having some mild nausea and it's been a good combination. By keeping the Methylin at only 10 mg the side effects are better. I do recommend trying this, but can I suggest ramping the Strattera first and getting to optimal dose for a couple of weeks, THEN add back your low dose stim. Good luck. If you do it, keep us posted, I'd love to hear if it works for you. |
