HELP!! Having issues getting meds in! (m) | ADHD Information

Well, what has been working for the last 4months (Focalin XR, with us opening the capsule and putting the beads into a PB sandwich) is no longer working as Ashton is taking FOREVER in the morning to eat (30-45mins to eat 2 bites of a sandwich). He's been taking the sandwich (or waffle sandwich if we make it with waffles and PB) on the bus with him because he's not eating it at home and he NEEDS the meds to help his behavior and his focus.

Compounding the problem is the fact that we have went on the GFCF diet (Gluten Free, Casein Free) about 2weeks ago. Noticeable progress and I wouldn't take him off the diet for the world, but of course, the bread/waffles are different than what he's used to (though he eats them, it is just taking FOREVER!!!!!).

Any suggestions? I don't want to try a new med as the Focalin XR works really well for my son; and his teacher said "please don't try a new med unless it's a last resort.... this one works SO well!" Our other option is to have the school nurse give him the sandwich at school but then it delays the onset of relief of symptoms for even later in the morning.

I'm having my son get up at 6am and his bus comes at 6:50... he SHOULD have the sandwich eaten by that point but he's barely getting a bite in before the bus comes.

HELP!!!

PS... the med itself is still working WHEN/IF we can get it into him!!!
asdkidsarecool39697.693275463Whatever you do, make sure he isn't chewing the beads.  They're time-released, so if crushed, everything will release at once.  A lot of people put the beads onto a spoonful of applesauce, pudding, or ice cream.  The whole thing just slides down the throat, no chewing.  Maybe the treat of morning pudding or ice cream would be enough to get him to take them quickly!I agree - I'd try to find a different method for giving him the medication.  There is nothing worse than the pressure of trying to get him to eat while you are trying to head out the door.

i think maybe u can put the med in only ONE bite of something instead of the whole sandwich. like maybe tear a peice off and say he has to have that bite first or put it in a spoonful of applesauce or yogurt or anything that would allow the med to be in only one spoonful. if u put it all over the sandwich and send him on the bus with it i bet he doesnt eat the sandwich on the bus if he wont eat it at home. no sense in standing over him making sure he eats it all when u can give it to him right away and then let him take his time eating. good luck i hope this works!!
