Hi all,
I'm quite new to the board. I have 2 boys, the youngest is 5 and I am sure he has ADHD. I recently completed a Connors questionaire, another copy was completed by his school teachers. As my son 'holds it in' at school and loves to learn his teacher does recognise ADHD behavior in him. Is he alone in this??
He has been busy since birth!! Never slept through the night, in a constant day dream, has fine and gross motor skills problems, difficulty making freinds, speech problems, constantly wants food, fiddles and breaks ever toy he owns and has an explosive temper. My husband has ADHD, I have ADD.
We are desperate, I don't understand how we can be left to try and get through each day just because reception class teachers see ADHD as being a naughty child rather than a confused and clumsy class clown.
His temper is getting worse, 5 or 6 explosions a day. Things are thrown and smashed, we are hurt and most distressing of all he hurts himself. He punches himself in the face or bangs his head against the wall calling out "why is it always me". He tells me he can't control himself.
My oldest son is autistic so I have a reasonable idea of how to deal with things but I am exhusted and feel so sorry for him. As he gets older he seems to be getting worse. He hates school and had to be dragged off of me this morning. He is being bullied at playtime but the school can not see it (he never tells me until days after and doesn't know the names of the kids).
I am so worried ( I was born to worry!!). He is a lovely boy, he squeazes me so tight and bed time, he wants us to be chained together so he never has to leave me.
What should I do???????
get a private neuropsych evaluation.
Does he get speech, PT, OT services? If so, privately or through school?
Yes he gets speech but nothing else. Private is a good idea but I have
