hyperactive after 3rd day..help please

my 9 yr old is on his 3rd day of concerta 18mg, the first 2 days he was more focused and concentrated and settled

today after his tablet (the third day) he was immediatley more hyperactive and it has lasted all day.

hes more hyperactive than before the tablets

is this normal

i am worried sick to the stomach

any advice please

you might need to increase his dose. We tried Concerta with my ds when he
was 5 yr. old (now 8). At that time 18mg. was not enough and the next
higher dose was too much. Since your 9 year old is much older and
probably weighs more than my son did at that time, an increase might be
fine. Call your doctor and try not to worry. I am going through something
similar with my ds. He has been on Daytrana 15 mg. patch for over a year
and it is not working like it used to. We are going to try to increase it to 20
mg. tomorrow. Like you, I am sick to my stomach, but you have to hang in
there. Once you figure it out, it will be fine. We went through lots of med
trials in the beginning - lots. It was hard, but necessary.

It also may not be teh right med for him. We had some success on Concerta for about a week or week and a half, then son had a HUGE meltdown. Our doc wanted to up it, but we were afraid to do it. We then switched to Vyvanse, which has been good so far, although we're still testing dosages.

I'd give the Concerta a bit more time -- they're not going to be perfect every day and something else could have affected him. But don't be afraid to ask for a med change if you don't think its working the way it should. That's why there are so many different options and you never know which one is the best for your son. its just so scary........what else can i say !!Hang in there. I know how you feel. You will figure this out, it's lots of trial
and error. This is the hardest part I think.
