can tenex hurt focus???

DD started tenex in April in addition to her adderall. The tenex has
helped with rebound and anxiety from the adderall. She is more even. On
the adderall alone she does very well in school. SHe is very focused in
the morning but can be a little withdrawn then by the afternoon she is
binging off the wall. The tenex really controls the hyperactivity, rebound
and impulsiveness. The problem is that with the tenex added to the
adderall she is really struggling academically, esp. in math which is
typically her best subject. It's almost like her processing speed is really
slowed down by the tenex. I am so disappointed because overall I like
the effect tenex has on her personality but srtuggling academically is
taking its toll.

Has anybody else experienced a decrease in mental abilities with tenex?
Can tenex hurt focusing ability while helping hyperactivity and
impulsivity? SHe is on a pretty high dose of adderall already (one reason
for adding the tenex) but I wonder if we increased the adderall a little if
this could make up for the focusing trouble?

Thanks!I just had an idea. I wonder if I gave her tenex only in the afternoon if she
would still see relief from the rebound but then only adderall in the
morning. Right now she takes .5mg of tenex 2x per day.I haven't noticed any difference in my daughter.   Tiredness is really her only side effect and we usually only notice it when we change doses. Thanks for that response HorseMom. What benefits do you see from tenex?
What dose is your dd on? My dd actually just brought home some class work
which looked good but her hyperactivity is really starting to show through
again. I am going to watch it but am discouraged. The hyperactivity really
effects her socially in a negative way.
My daughter takes 1 mg x2 day along with Concerta 27 mg.   The benefits we have seen are less anxiety,  calmer evenings, more even keel and reduction in tic severity.   For us, the differences are much more subtle than when she started stimulants.

The Tenex might be making her tired, which could slow her down mentally.  Maybe decrease the dose and see how it goes?  It takes a few weeks at one dose to evaluate the difference.

We have played around with the dosing of the tenex a little bit. And it
definitely takes time to see the effects. The slightest increase does make her
tired and "slower". At this point I think she is pretty stable on the .5mg 2x
per day, and it doesn't make her tired, but her hyperactivity is showing
through. I'd love to increase her a little bit but every time I try, it is hard. SHe
is tired and quiet. I had given her a tiny bit extra (1/4 of a pill) for 3-4 days.
Maybe that is why she seemed "slow" mentally, but she was also more in
control. I'm not sure what to do. I like the tenex but I do think it is a little
hard to work with. Could you increase the Adderall?  That might be the answer to controlling the hyperactivity you're seeing?Mom2ADHDboy-Thanks for the response.
I think increasing the adderall may help too. She is already on 30mg which is
pretty high. Believe it or not she has been on that dose since 1st grade, SHe
is now in 5th grade and weighs 25-30 lbs more than she did in 1st grade.
We have been hesitant to go above the 30mg but may have to at some
point. I have never heard of a child being on a dose higher than 30mg of
adderall XR but her psychiatrist says we can. I hope we can figure this out
soon!! I am exhausted from worrying about her!
