dry mouth/throat with vyvanse

i was wondering if anyone has ever had a cough with vyvanse? at first i thought my ds had a tic but he is coughing more after we lowered his dose a little and added tenex. it was just one single cough every few minutes but now its coughing for longer amounts of time and still every few minutes. now he says his throat is scratchy. im not sure if its like that from continious coughing or if the vyvanse ia making his throat dry. he says it feels like he has something in his throat. i tell him to get a drink of water when he starts coughing alot and it doesnt seem to help. he also has a sniff but the frequancy of that has been cut in half just from lowering vyvanse and adding tenex. the teacher at school has called me about the coughing and now i am really wondering if its a tic or if something else is going on. ppl keep asking me if he has allergies but not that i know of. would allergy make him feel like something was in his throat and have a cough and sniff. his nose does not appear to be runny or stuffy. sounds like a dry sniff and a dry cough. any help or suggestions? oh and also he does it whether we are outside or inside so its not just an air conditioning thing or something in the air outside. im so confused!

oh and he has been on vyvanse 30mg for about 6 weeks and he has had the sniff prior to any meds prob since about march or april but the cough just started the week before labor day so about 1 1/2 weeks ago. getting worse!

rosalie6839700.71375has anyone ever had dry mouth from any other med that made them cough a whole lot?

Our grandson is having the same coughing problem. Says it feels like something in his throat. His been on 40MG for a number of months. His doctor has given him medicine to dry up his drainage thinking this would help. It hasn't. He said if it didn't clear up in a week to call him. That'll be next week. Did you get some clarification on what was causing your son'd coughing?

When my kids take adderall (related to vyvanse), it can cause drainage and
post nasal drip down the throat. Have you tried throat lozengers? We've tried cough drops, etc. and nothing seems to stop the constant coughing. [QUOTE=rosalie68]

Allergies could absolutely be doing that.  My best guess for what's going on is a combination of allergies and dry mouth/throat.  One of the most common side effects of all stimulant medications is dry mouth and throat; if you have allergies giving you postnasal drip, but your throat is really dry, that can cause a nasty cough.  Try some claritin or another antihistamine.  (Best to do that on the weekends--meds tend to effect people with ADHD differently, even the "non-drowsy" ones can make us tired.)  Getting worse after you've lowered/changed meds points to something other than the medication causing it.  People can develop allergies at any age--I didn't get them til I was 12.
my ds doesnt have allergies. we took him to the dr and they ruled that out. our ds cough is a tic. he doesnt do it at night. he does it indooors and outdoors. we have tried cough drops throat drops all that stuff. we have the water thing for if your child has a habit cough and that didnt work. we have given him the dose of tenex in the morning and at night and its slowly getting better. he has only had both doses for 2 weeks now so we are still waiting for it to work all the way. it takes 6-8 weeks. glynn i sent u a pm explaining more. i dont think everyone that has a cough necesssarily has a tic but we have ruled out so many other things.
