Hi my name is Lisa. My daughter whom is 11 years old has ADD. She is in the 6th grade and was diagnose in the 2-3 grade. She is on Foclian XR. She is a very bright student and a wonderful kid. The problem that i am having is her medication is a time release for 12 hours. She takes it 2 times aday..one in the early morning and one in the last afternoon.
For the past couple of months..maybe about 7 months she is like a different kid. I understand that the hormone are ragging..lol because of puberty..but she is getting in to wanting to wear black clothing, and the music she wants to listen to is depressing. Me and my hubby have had several talks to her about this...and have told her..if she keeping wanting to sit in a dark room..and wear black clothes all the time it will make you depressed. Well this morning i went to take her to her bus stop...and there is this little girl whom she is best friends with and has been in school with her since kindergarden. My daughter like this group (music) and the singer is really girly looking...well she was at her locker yesterday and her friends were there..he friend made the comment that he looked like a girl and she slapped accross the face. Now there were all playing..and they laughed but it her her friends feelings. I was like OH MY GOD! I told her mother how sorry i was.!
I am not sure how to handle this!!!!!!!!!!! She gets real definsive when it comes to certain things..and she gets mad if someone give this opinion about something that she likes. Me and her pediatrician have talked to her on several occasions that if you dont like something that someone says that sometimes you just need to not comment back.
Please help i am not sure what to do?????????
Thanks
Lisa
I personally would look into counseling. Individual and family. I really believe in the power of counseling if conducted by the right individual and done well. Please make sure she is getting the right professional help. Dont let her rebel and keep an close eye on her, make sure she doesn't get in with the wrong crowd. You don't want her going down the wrong path. Black isn't good !. At that age when you slap someone it's not playing, something else is going on. I'm not a professional, But I think something else is going on with her. Is she still taking her MEDS. Keep us posted, I went through something like this and it ended up being a nightmare for everyone. gram/239731.6100578704
