| vyvanse + booster? | |||

Hi everyone, My son (9) years has been on vyvanse 30 mgs for about a year now....he takes the medication at about 7:00 each morning...(how long is this medication supposed to last.?..we are barly getting through homework and swim team practice at 6:00 in the evening is horrible ( he can't focus, does not listen to the coach and swims without putting his best effort)...I think he may need a booster or perhaps a bigger dose of vyvanse...does anyone use a booster stimulant with vyvanse? If so what? The funny thing is that he also has a weekend practice and swims great but the practice is earlier. did say that she could take a booster of adderall in the afternoon. We ended up going back to the adderall XR because she was more focused on it and it actually lasted loner than the vyvanse. I think I read a post on here of somebody taking a different booster, dextroamphetamine, maybe which is the actual active ingredient in vyvanse. HTH Good luck. We've been there in the afternoons as well. Both of my kids take a booster for sports practices in the afternoons. My 6 year old son is on 70 mgs of Vyvanse. In the beginning it would work 10-12 hours. However after about 5 months, I noticed that it was wearing off around 7-8 hours. My pediatrician recommended a second dose of vyvanse to be taken 11 hours after his a.m. dose (my son does not have trouble eating/falling asleep with Vyvanse). However this did not work for us. It seemed like when we started giving him his evening dose, it made his symptons worse in the morning. He was more hyper than usual, fidgety, etc. So my doctor referred us to a pyschatrist. When I explained what was going on, the psychatrist said that one, my son was getting too high of a second dose, and two that I should have given it to him sooner, like around 7-8 hours or so. So rather than trying a second dose of Vyvanse, he has put my son on Strattera in addition to the Vyvanse. But since we aren't really seeing the Strattera working 24 hours like it should, he has him take 10 mg of adderall, short acting, on the days he has evening activities. I am not sure if we are seeing a difference with the adderall or not. We have just started this. Some days it seems like it helps, and other days, you really can't tell we gave it to him. Hope this helps! My daughter had problems also. What her doctor did was give her a booster of dextroamphetamine. It worked beautifully! No side effects, she didn't rebound and came down smoother. After a while the booster was not needed. My daughter's specialist said that dextroamphetamine is the main component in the Vyvance so it is not like we are giving her a different med. He has had a lot of success with the combination. Some people think Vyvance is like Adderall because it has the same maker but that is not true. My daughter could not take Adderall but can take Vyvance. I would think the second dose of Vyvanse would be too much also. Good luck... thank you all for your help, I will put a call in to the doc for an appointment....It is good to hear that detroamphetamine works well with the vyvance I'm a 30yo woman, but have been on Vyvanse for a year now. I take 60mg in the morning about 8:30am. By 6 or 7pm, I notice it is worn off and I become even more irritable and cranky. I spoke to my doctor about 3 months after taking Vyvanse that it was wearing off and he kind of brushed it off, saying I was just getting past the initial euphoria and other side effects and that it was still working. But it hasn't gotten better and lately, it has even been more noticeably tougher to get through the evening without snapping at my husband. Since I had some lower dose Vyvanse pills from when I was still adjusting up to the 60mg, I started splitting the 50mgs and taking half about 3-4pm and it has made a huge difference. I came here to read about what other people have experienced, so I'm glad to hear it isn't just me that feels the meds wear off by early evening. I have felt better with the 25mg boost, but would prefer to see what my Dr. says this next week after I present a little more experience to him.
