Is Catapres going to help

My son was diagnosed today with adhd... I'm honestly relieved.. this week alone he has had in school suspension and a day and a half of at home suspension.. it's 1st grade... I'm feeling some serious anger at the school system.. he's only been there a few weeks and it seems that all they want to do is put him in the office of send him home.... I'm positive they are looking at trying to suspend him... I'm heart broken we've been doing behavior mng at home for awhile... it's all about the big picture in my book.. does this behavior effect the world.. no.. then deal with it... sorry i'm rambeling.. my question is that I haven't been able to find a lot of information about the catapres patch on the internet... does it work... will this stop the defiance at school??? jaxs39703.9108680556Welcome jax. Catapres also goes under the name Clonidine as Clonidine is a more commonly known name so perhaps when doing a search look under that name. Clonidine or Catapres is not normally given as a first line of treatment and/or management for ADHD. It is a blood pressure medication that is sometimes given to children with ADHD in addition to ADHD meds to aid with sleeping problems.  Is there any reason the doctor didnt start your son on stimulant medication which is the medication of choice for ADHD? Behavior modfication standing alone will not fully manage the symptoms of ADHD. Who is the prescribing doctor and who diagnosed your son? More information would be helpful in order to help you and steer you in the right direction. If yout son truly has aDHD, he is not tryng to be defiant. He is overwhelmed and probably feeling tons of anxiety so he is shutting down and the school is handling this situation very poorly Please hang in there. We can help guide you in the right direction and we are always here when you need to vent. Write with more info when you can.
