New:: need some advice plzstarted out on Concerta which gave me unbearable migraines, then went to Ritalin and had the same problem. Strattera did nothing for me except make me irritable. Then I found Dexedrine and was on it for a year and half up until 3 months ago. I was up to 30 mg a day and it was starting to lose it's effectiveness very quickly. So now I am on Adderall XR and doing well except for a few side effects that I need help with. Every afternoon once the meds are wearing off I am getting very depressed, is there anything I can do. I just hate life at these times of the day. Also I am having severe problems with sleeping. I have taken sleep aids such as Ambien (gave me the opposite effect than what it was supposed to), Trazadone (left me with a little memory problems in the morning and feeling like a space cadet) and now I am on Tofranil and needless to say I havent gotten any sleep in 2 days-- I am open to suggestions I took ritilin for a very long time. I now take 30 mg of Adderall XR. Difference for me is that I'm good for about 10 hrs instead of just 3 or 4 from ritilin. Sleep will be an issue for sure. I have a question for you about your dosage. Do you take adderall once or twice a day? If you are taking it twice a day I expect that you will have severe sleep issues. The stuff works for me as one dosage of 30 mg and it lasts for about 10 hours. then I can sleep. If I were to take it in the middle of the day some time, I would never get to sleep. I have heard of doctors prescribing 2 times a day dosages. Every time I have heard of that, it is accompanied by trouble sleeping. As for your sleep aids, I also have a small bit of experience in that dept. I had Lyme disease which created some of those problems for me. I used a combination of Ambien and Klonopin (sp?). Either drug alone was not effective. The 2 together hit me with a one two punch that had me incapacitated within 15 minutes. Klonopin is an anti-seizural I believe. It was prescribed that way by my doctor, so I would suggest checking with yours before trying something like that. But it did work... VEry effectively. My suggestion with that is to take it and get in bed. That way you wont wake up in 8 hours wondering how you fell asleep at the kitchen table. Also, don't fight it. when it kicks in you can fight it and whenever I did, I had... well lets just say rainbows and itty bitty people poking me...
