I suggest that you have your child evaluated by a child psychaitrist or a neurologist. You need a formal assessment and an accurate diagnosis, not a recommendation based on speculation. Suggesting medication without conduting a formal and proper assessment of your child is unacceptable and unprofessional.
I think your wise to start with a medical check and take it from there. Please keep us posted.
well it sounds like you're making some decisions. This guy ordered the medical tests so go ahead and get them done and, again, if you're not comfortable with him in the meantime make an appt with some one different. As Ms. Mom says a psychiatrist or neurologist is going to be the most experienced for meds.Thank you, I appreciate your input.
My son is the love of my life and I want what is best for him.
Have a great day.
P.S. 2 days with the marble discipline and 2 days of good behavior..yeah
Yeah, another good day. I am hoping that is the effect from the marble discipline that I began 2days ago. 2 days with good behavior. He even brought home a smiley face today from school. This is ony his 2nd smiley face since the beginning of the school year. He was allowed to move extra marbles for that and he was so excited.....
Ok, just got home from adopted son's (5) first appt with Dr. I was not at all please with the visit. The Dr. didn't do any kind of activity with my son. He just spoke with me and evaluated my son playing with his car.
His said he appears to be ADHD and have TICS. OK, my son was making motor noised while playing with his car and because he makes noised while playing with his toys such as cars, transformers, cowboys and makes the sound affects with them he has TICS. He said a normal child would not make those noises. I said I thought it was just childs play..
The Dr. said he seems to be very intellegent (spelling??) just by how he was ineracting with us. The Dr. had a skull with a brain on his desk and my son asked him if he was a scientist. It was cute.
I was blown away by the Dr. saying he has a form of TICS, that was completely unexpected. He has ordered blood work, ekg and checking his thyroid, lead levels and kidneys.
He suggested putting him on ritalin or adderall - I have not heard a lot about either one of these drugs.
Just need some advice..struggling accepting the fact that there may be a problem...
both Ritilan and Adderall are common meds to treat ADHD. They are both stimulant medications, just differnet "classes" of meds. Either choice is a reasonalbe one to start with for meds.
If you are unsure or uncomfortable with this doctor and/or his diagnosis, I recommend getting a second opinion. what is his specialty?
He is a child phsycologist. His is a M.D. / P.A.
I am going to go forward with all the medical checks and then decide what to do. He is adopted and it would be nice to know more about my child medically then what I do.
I am just uncertain about the TICS, not sure if I completely agree with this diagnosis. I thought he would have done some type of activity with him to determin the ADHD. Maybe I just not ready to admit my son may have a problem.
Thanks for listening.
