hair pulling try #2 | ADHD Information

Well, I really hate that for him.  Bless his heart...I'm sure some answers are coming!! Hang in there!!Can you shave his head in the meantime?  Seriously?FYI, our ds sweats like a pig...oh, how I'd love to have his metabolism, so we keep his head shaved.  You get used to it and it sounds like your little man may  like it gone. it can be addressed. My daughter does not pull ever any more. FOR her the trigger was the Concerta. People who pull, generally have a root cause for the pulling. Until that is addressed they probably won't stop. For us it was simple, for others, not so much. Research it. Is it a psychiatrist that manages the meds?

yes his head is very closely shaved but he still seems to get to it?  But whren he can't he pulls his armhair or legs ( this past summer).  He looks alful almost bald and crys the whole time when we get it clips close.

it is a no win situation it seems

that's actually a good idea, BUT he may pull from other parts of his body, eyelashes, eyebrows, body hair.....etc

my 7 year old son is pulling out his hair? He has ADHD and they siad OCD but he does not do things over & over.  He says it feels funny or it itches.  It grew back somewhat over the summer after we put him on abialfy but by the 2nd day of school he came home with a round bald spot and now it is both side of his head ugggg.  He is on vyvance and tenxi but has been for well over a year and doctor does not hing it is the meds doing it?

We are in the middle of a neuro evel but will be another month b4 we get any info?

it is called trichotillomania, the hair pulling. My daughter did this while on Concerta. We stopped it and she stopped, that was almost 2 years ago. However, it is somethign that occurs without meds, so there may not be a direct correlation. I'd research the disorder. From my research it is commonly starts in adolescence and can be difficult to treat, but there are some therapies that have been successful.
