Any advice on how to control tics? | ADHD Information

Share

I'm 62 and was diagnosed with bipolar II years ago and recently ADHD. I've suffres from tic all my life and worse when I was anxious. Recently I've tried concerta and they got out of control. A few days ago I tried biphantin which is similar to ritalin XR in Canada. Although I feel better the tics are still haunting me but less than before as my GP gave me magnesium which helps a great deal.
I've been on Dexedrine for about 7 months now and I have developed a very irritating, not to mention unattractive tic where I squeeze my eyes together  tightly, sometimes momentarily, and sometimes for about 10 seconds.  I don't know if it is because my eyes are dry or just for no reason.  If anyone has any advice on how to catch this and stop it, please send it my way.  Thanks!
I dont know which tics you have but mine are very troublesome. The worse one is a continuous  push of the bladder. OK! lets see if I would force to urinate I push  constantly in sequence.

This year I ended up with 1 surgery (TURP) to clean the prostate and due to this tic, I had 2 more as it was causing the bladder neck to close in. No fun in that are..

I used to have tics just like this when I was younger. I was actually talking to a friend about that today and realized that I had a lot of them. Which only adds to the fact I have something going on with me.

I did the squeezing eyes shut, raise eyebrows really high (as if to stretch my sking), opening mouth really wide (as if to stretch the skin of my lips and corners of my mouth. Also, using side of my pointer finger to pull(stretch) my skin between upper lip and underneath nose. Looks like I'm just doing a move someone who is frustrated or tired does. In fact, I think I do that a little right now.......:( Right now I have a tic where...actually two tics. Dang I hope thinking about them doesn't make them worse...anyway, someone who has an itchy nose usually does a quick rub up. I do that. My other one is the one that's irritating me bad right now, bringing my lips in so they look gone and in a straight line. I've been buying lots of chapstick b/c they are so dried out.

When I'v developed one and finally noticed it, I would try not to do it when I caught myself about to do it. I'd keep thinking it, then distract myself. Then end up totally forgetting about it. Eventually all tics go away for me. These I have now will probably go soon since I just discussed it today...alot. :)

Good luck.
