I am so happy you are seeing positive results and your son is benefitting.

It is wonderful to see them be successful in life.

We too have had great results with meds and changes in parenting style.

Great news! So happy that things are going well. Thanks for sharing! We have officially been on adderall xr for two weeks and i had a conference w/ his teacher on Monday night. THe change hasnt been major and he is not a zombie by any means (which was my greatest fear)  He is just doing a million times better in school and appears "calmer".  His teacher said she has noticed a great difference in his ability to do his work and she actually has sent him in to the counselors office for a "spark referral" (which is the gifted children's program in our state)  I am soo happy he is able to shine for a change. He has had 2 weeks of "Outstanding" behavior and he is soo proud of himself when he comes home and has a smiley face for his behavior.  We are only on 5 miligrams and i am impressed w/ the changes. His "downtime" around 7 o'clock brings a little more defiance and whiness but it is a small price to pay. His appetite and sleepign seem to be doing really well also and so far I have not noticed any side effects. I actually feel guilty that it took me two years to finally do something. I am very pleased soo far 2 weeks out. Just wanted to share my good news!

Hi, I wanted to say i can totally understand your nervousness.. I know rittalin has been around for ages so it is a highly studied drug. We went w/ a child pychatrist for our evaluation and i feel very comfortable w/ her diagnosis and treatment plan.  We are on adderall XR.. and it's only the smallest doeses which is 5 mg. and i have a feeling he really needs a little higher but for now we are doing good so i dont want to push the increase unless it's needed.   Putting your child on medication is not a decision i think any parent takes lightly, but i know in my heart i would be setting my child up for a lifetime of hardship and possibly failure if i ignored his disorder.  I feel lucky that we have been successful on our first try w/ meds i know for some parents it may take a few trys to find what works but if you dont give up you find what clicks w/ your child and you will notice a huge difference in all areas of their little lives. GOood LUck!!!!
