Hey y'all. Jon is doing fairly well. His new doctor (only 30 minutes away) wants even more blood work for Jon. Jon is so fed up with it. He just had a lot of the tests she requested. If we don't comply, she won't treat him and it will mean 6hr round trips to Miami. Poor Jon, he doesn't want more tests. I feel so badly for him. My husband is going to take him because I am too chicken and I always have taken him.....
Anyway- what kind of testing do your doctors want for your children? Mine wants:cbc w/differential, electrolytes, bun, creatinine, tsh, t4, more liver function tests, ca, po4, iron, lipid profile, fasting glucose and prolactin. Lot of tests for a little boy.
Glad to hear Jon is doing well. I am also happy you don't have to drive so far anymore. He will take the test, it is worth it. The new doctor has to see his medical condition before rx' ing anything. Overall Good Luck and my hubby takes my son , 10 because he has to wrestle him down to get the blood.Jon was so brave! My husband said 5 tubes of blood and Jon didn't flinch. Of course, Jon was up all night and ended up sleeping in my room- he must have been so scared poor thing!
Thanks for the positive posts. I know she is doing this for Jon- I only wish they could take my blood instead :)
I'm confused. My daughter's dr has never ordered any kind of blood tests. When she was diagnosed as ADHD, we went to see a psychologist who observed her for about 20 min. or so, and then sent checklists for me, her grandparents (whom we live with), and her teacher to fill out. That was 5 years ago. On her last checkup with the ped., I asked about lab work. The dr looked at me like I was crazy and told me that if they did lab work on all their patients, they would be backed up for weeks.
I'm really concerned because bipolar runs in my family, and the drs don't seemed concerned. There is also a history of thyroid disease and heart disease. I can't get the ped. to listen. I am currently trying to find another dr, but don't know where to begin. The main behavioral health center is run by a hospital that my insurance won't cover. I'm so frustrated I'm ready to scream and cry!You don't say how old your daughter is but even my children's pediatrician orders blood work every year. The psychiatrist who is now caring for my son wanted all these blood tests because meds that he was taking when he was mis-dx'd bipolar damaged his liver.
If you are looking for another doctor, check with your insurance company and look for a pediatric neurologist or pediatric psychiatrist. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much. We went to see a psychologist on Tuesday to get a second opinion since bipolar runs in my family and ADHD is so closely linked with bipolar. Thankfully the psychologist said she believed it was more of a medication issue than anything else. She is referring us to a pediatric specialist for her medicine. I have tried to call the clinic, but right now they are at lunch. However, when I looked the clinic up online, it says that this doctor specializes in ADHD and ADD disorders, as well as other pediatric behavior disorders. I am just really hoping that this doctor is the answer to my prayers for help.Wonderful for you and your daughter. Hope this doctor works out well! Keep us informed.

I appreciate the support. I'm getting a little frustrated because the counselor was supposed to fax the referral on Weds., but as of yesterday she had not. When I called her office, they said that she keeps all her charts with her, and she would be out until Mon. The secretary told me that ahe would have no idea if the therapist had faxed the referral, and she would not be able to do it herself since the dr has the charts.
Your frustration is understandable. If you feel like taking a stance- call back and tell the secretary to contact the counselor and you want a call back with the information that the sec'y has 'no idea' about. That is VERY unprofessional of the sec'y. It is her responsibility to get answers!!
