Problems with reading and writing | ADHD Information

Hi mu name si Rikus

I am new here and was diagnosed at he age of 35 with ADHD.  It was a great day to be diagnosed, got some meds and in all I am better, dispite still having some difficulty, like most people.

I have always have had some struggle with writing and reading a bit. It feels as I have a mild case of Dyslexia now, and I know I don't have Dyslexia. The problem is not that seroius as I have completed 2 degrees so it is not debilitating. It is just over the last 6 months it has gotten worse and I have been under a lot of pressure and stress lately.

Have any one else experienced this? It seems as if my brain is just to slow and sometimes and ma battling with this. I sit in a meeting and someone hands out a document to read quickly and I get stuck. Is this normal? If so any ideas how to handle this?  I sometimes have to ask my assistant to read an e mail and ask her what is said.

Any help will be much appreciated

hi rikus,

i have the same problem as you sometimes. it only becomes a problem when im under pressure and it gets worse. its like i cant seem to read even 1 line of text. for me its like i a cant focus on the paper and i get really bad short term memory so i have to read it over and over and i still dont know what it says. i think that if you get someone to read it to you as you stated it helps becuase its a different sensory input.

the only thing i can do is to 'try' and reduce the stress i have. i actually have dyslexia (and i did a degree too) but for me its not really related to dyslexia. its defo my ADHD. its a focus problem for me which is made worse by stress. i just keep taking my meds and do my best...

sorry i cant be of more help but i dont really know what to do either. just reduce stress i guess but thats easier said than done eh!

alexGBFE12ommas39764.3731712963Could you try reading out loud to yourself.  Sometimes I have to do that in order to really understand what I'm reading.  Of course, I realize you can't do this in a public place all the time or in certain work situations.

Good luck to everyone!
