Strattera, is it working for your child? | ADHD Information

Strattera did not really work for my son.  He has been on it for over three months.  He is at the highest dose for his weight.  We have not noticed much of a difference.  He is also on Vyvanse.  It did seem to help the Vyvanse last longer.  Before Strattera, vyvanse was lasting a few hours.  Now it lasts around 6 hours.  I don't know if Stattera helped this, or it was just a coincidence.  We are now starting to try Tenex.  If this helps out, then we will stop the Strattera.  I do know from these posts though, that some people had great results on Strattera.  Good Luck!  I know how stressful it can be when starting a new medicine.  One good thing was that my son did not have any side effects while on Strattera. Hi, My son is on 10 mg. of Strattera and soon with be on 20mg, he has been on 10 mg for a week and a half, anyone notice strattera working for their child?
emilyd39736.655787037ok and so.................STILL SWALLOWING! But I notice a lot of hitting. DH and I just split and the kids and I moved and it also could be the terrible 2's at 4 since he has Autism. It is when I try to transition him from let's say, the computer to going to the bathroom. He never says he has to pee, only poop so I have an internal clock and take him. I hope it is a phase, I am just so happy about the swallowing even tho I bought the cup! I have a meeting with the CPSE tomorrow to talk about kindergarden....wish me luck! He's STILL swallowing?

Uh oh--hitting....

Well that can be next on your list of "behaviours to fix".

Good luck with the kindergarten stuff.

HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My son is 4 and was on Strattera for almost 6 months. I would put it in oatmeal, applesauce and yogurt. I would have to open it up and sneak it. Problem was, he always tasted it. He can not swallow pills. He also has Autism. 2 weeks ago he started getting pretty violent when I would try to give it to him and then vomit and gag. I just had a parent teacher conf. and they conformed what I see. He is off the wall and he is super smart but can't attend and now the jargon has come back because he is thinking too fast. PLEASE HELP ME! I need to get this into him. If I put it in any food he refuses to eat that food again and he has a limited diet. Do they make chewable? This med worked wonders and now I am so scared that they will have to place him in a non-typical class because of his lack of focus and attention! I need my boy back. My doc said to use a tic tac to teach him to swallow and he chews them. Please help!

I actually taught BOTH my kids to swallow pills practicing on tic tacs and it worked like a charm. I see the point as Strattera is a capsule as opposed to tablets.

Strattera should not be opened. Have you tried any stimulants? You do have more options. Many of those can be sprinkled or you have the option of daytrana which is a patch.

Well, I think if you teach the kid on tictacs first [before all this panicking!] then get them to tip forward most kids would probably be okay.

Did you ever try that cup thing?
My 9yr old has been on Strattera for over one year 40mg (he weighs 67lbs). It is helping him stay focused on school work, keep his emotions under control, and his impulses are in better check. He was not having overwhelming problems before starting it but strugling to finish homework, not able to read well etc.. When he forgets to take his pill we know it!!! You have to give Strattera time it is not a quick fix like stimulants and the effects are not astounding but for us they are just enough to help my child make good choices and get through the day. I really feel some kids need both. Strattera helps th eemotional aspect of ADD while stimulants are better at dealing with the hyperactivity of ADHD. Give it more time and hopefully you will see the diff.

My son was not succesful on Strattera. It made him depressed, suicidal at the age of 7. It was stopped immediatly.

I have read others who are successful with it, it all just depends. Everyone is different.

My son needs the stimulant, he is very hyper and impulsive.

I do know that the dose is weight based, so make sure your son is where he needs to be by his weight and not to go over the dose amount as well as under.

I just ordered the cup! Please stay tuned.....

he is out of control and I am SO hopeful!

Oh good luck with the cup! You HAVE to let us know if it works!!! It will be so helpful for so many people if it does.
