Changes in Plans | ADHD Information
Oh, my friends know well to expect a firestorm when they change plans, even when its changed from something semi-boring (poker night) to something really interesting (they scored hockey tickets). I get upset and flake out, even though i know I'll have more fun with the new plan.
I'm getting better about it but it still rattles me.
I think why we get rattled is that a lot of us hate chaos and can be called "control freaks" from time to time. Its how we keep the mental noise to a manageable level. I know that's true for me and very few people, even those close to me, really understand it.
....why does it bug me so much when plans change?.....ie, my wife got us football tickets for Saturday and it is driving me crazy for no good reason.....any thoughts? forgetfulcomic39737.6906597222It could be the hyperfocusing thing? I know for me, I'll get fixated on something (maybe to the point of obsession) and if it changes, it totally disrupts things. For me, and perhaps for many of us, change is hard. Could be one reason why kids have a hard time - changing classes/grades after finally getting settled in. I know I do like spontaneity but only if I don't have anything else going on. When I'm counting on something to happen and then it falls through, i fall down. Could be the hyper-sensitivity? I don't know if this helps at all but I can identify with your frustration.
It can be hard to adapt when you have one expectation and things change. My husband has trouble at restraunts when they are out of the dish he goes there to eat. He has refused to order anything (and go hungry) rather than pick something else. He will then not go back to the restraunt, in case they are out of his favorite again.
I hope you enjoyed the game.
