When to add another medicine | ADHD Information

My son has been on Vyvanse 30mg for almost 2 months now.  Our problem with him now is he has an attitude with us and last night he threw a tanturm b/c he could not fix his broken toy.  He would not let me fix it either.  The real fit came (throw himself down, cry, run all through the house) after I did not stay in the room and watch his movie with him.  Needless to say he got 2 time-outs and is grounded today after school.  Could this be that he needs another medicine  after the Vyvanse starts wearing off or is it a disipline kinda thing?  I have to get my way or else thing.  He has been on Risperdal in the past but the doctor took him off b/c of weight issues.  Since DS started on Vyvanse his weight went from 66lbs to 57lbs.  Could his dose be high now that his weight dropped.  He was fine until his weight started dropping.  His doctor told me that they will prescribe Risperdal in a very very tiny dose to help with the appitite.  I think maybe I ask her to prescribe it to him.  Maybe he will not be so crabby in the evenings. If he had good results with the risperdal before, it might be worth trying with the stimulant. My youngest was on risperdal with a stimulant and guanfacine for a while when a rough school year was causing anxiety that was coming out as aggression. When we got past that school year we tried without the risperdal and have not needed it since. I am glad to have it available if we need to go back to it again. My youngest is thin so any weight gain was welcome. THe stim and risperdal may stabilize your son's weight and help him with his symptoms. Conflict at home can really damage the parent/child relationship. We had to work really hard to rebuild this relationship with my youngest.
