Vyvanse = wont stop cleaning! | ADHD Information
i left u a post on your other message. i just saw this and i wanted to tell u that for 3 or 4 days my son did not act like himself. i think he was just getting adjusted to the meds. i think what your son is doing is hyper focusing on the cleaning. i dont know much about hyperfocusing but i know that ppl with adhd do it. i think its when they focus on things too much and they cant stop. maybe since he is not used to the meds and being able to actually focus that maybe thats why he is doing it. hopefully someone will post that knows more about that. i just know with vyvanse it took a few days for him to adjust. he was very moody and emotional. he would cry over the silliest things. i think he cried about something every single day. over dramatic!! everything hurt his feelings. he still is a little more sensitive but its not an everyday thing anymore like it was at first. maybe he will cry like once a week sometimes not even that much so it does get better. i was worried that week bc i thought maybe it was making him depressed but then it got better and now i dont think that at all! let me know if u need anything or want to ask questions about our exp with meds. i would love to help!

My almost 7yr old son just started taking Vyvanse 30mg yesturday.
He is ADHD and usually is running around the house, screaming, jumping, climbing and just overall impossible to manage. He would never do what he was asked, and usually always talked back. Not to mention stir up my other 2 children ( one 4 yr old and one 2 yr old) so my house was like a zoo!
So this medicine works great, he listens, he doesnt yell, scream or anything of the above mentioned behavior.
But he wont stop cleaning. Yesturday he cleaned my living room and talked all of our ears off. Told me multiple times that I needed to vaccum, that floor is dirty.
Today, he has been cleaning my tile kitchen floor with baby wipes pretty much for the last 4 hrs. Hes cleaned the refrigator, counter tops, and right this second, I think he is in his room trying to clean walls.
Ive taken the wipes away and he seems to get more somehow. He wont stop. Ive said " why dont you try just picking up your room instead" and I dont think he can. Its like he is stuck on it.
Is that a normal symptom of this medicine? and will it wear off over time of him taking it. Its only day two but Im worried when he goes to school tomorrow, he is going to be trying to clean all the tables and windows!!
Any info would help!
Thank you!
**ok I just took all the wipes away from him and he is extremly upset!.....Is this normal?
samanthaccg39747.6033101852I am new, but I think I had the same problem you did. We tried Vyvanse 30mg for a day. My 8 year old son cleaned his entire room, and the bathroom until both were spotless. He was obsessed. By midday he was very nauseated, and then he did not sleep the entire night.
We did not try it for another day-I don't think Ryan would have taken it again even if we did want him to. We are on Medidate (sp?) 40mg and it is working, worst thing is no appetite.

Not to downplay your stuggles here but...
Can I rent your children?
If not--can I have their leftover medication?

Sounds like the med is kicking in. If he's still obsessed in the next two weeks or so, you might want to bring that up with the doc.
