Hello,
My daughter just started meds 4 days ago, ( Adderal 5mg) and she has been totally off. she is quieter but she comes home from school and is tired and weepy. Her doctor said it could take some time for her body to adjust to the medication and that we should give it two weeks. Has anyone else had the same experience?
Yes, When My daughter first started Med in second grade. She was really tired and if you looked at her wrong she would burst into tears. Give it a month like your Doc. said and if things don't improve then let him know. MelissaThanks, did the med need to be changed or did she just get used to it. do you remember how long it took?? Is her personality changed on the meds??Thanks Bethann
She is doing a little better, teacher said she is not getting up out of her chair and is more on task but she is chatty. She is not as weepy as and not as tired. we will hang in there for 2 weeks like her doctor said.
adderall made my son irritable and weepy. we moved over to concerta. it took us a good 6 months to find the meds and level off on the dose.
After the meds wear off in the afternoon, she will also have rebound, again sleepy, irritable, etc. That is the meds leaving her system.
I guess we need to start with the med choice - is adderall the right one for her? Then the dose, is it too low and needs an increase or too high and should be lowered?
With all these guys, rebound is innevitable. Some can handle it better than others, but they do adjust to it. We had it at first, but no longer. The one thing I always made sure of is that my son ate SOMETHING, ANYTHING when he came home from school. He now eats something good, but for a while, he wanted a hershey bar, and it worked! He wasn't irritable after school and homework went well.
The meds do make my son quiet, but he is very H and impulsive. DS has been on concerta and guanfacine for over 4 years now. We started when he was shy of his 7th birthday and he is now 11 1/2 (almost)
Remember these meds are NOT weight based, but success based. YOu know you are on the right med when they are successful. And everyone is different, what works for one may not work for another. It is by trial and error, unfortunatley.
I hope this is helpful, please ask any questsion.
