economics v. environmental responsibility | ADHD Information
There is no reason you cannot wash out and reuse ziploc bags just the same as tupperware. I also use the ziploc plastic containers. you can take a sharpie and put you childs name on it like: T. Smith and you might just get it back in a week.....
The reality is that yes, we try to leave as a small carbon footprint as we can, but we also have to be realistic.
Do the best you can. No one can ask more of you than that.
I applaud your green efforts. I feel the same way. As the pp said, you can rinse out plastic ziploc bags and reuse them.
Is your ds throwing out the tupperware or forgetting it at school? If he's forgetting it, putting his name on it might help get it back.
Maybe it would help to put a checklist in his lunchbox reminding him what to bring back home?
Good luck, and just do the best you can. If you're adding more to the landfill than you'd like, maybe try extra hard to save more water or electricity at home to make you feel better. If you're already doing all you can, then that says it all -- you're doing all you can.
Since I was a child I've been very much into the "green" thing (although that term wasn't yet being used). Recently I began wondering if my efforts to be less wasteful haven't backfired with my adhd son.
How do you determine which has the greater impact: totally disposable lunch packaging, or replacing lunchboxes and tupperware because they get lost/thrown out?
I sent him on a field trip today for which he needed a "trash free" lunch (it's an "eco-trekker" program at a state park). He had to pack his lunch in his sister's old pink lunchbox. For the average fifth grade boy that would probably be enough to make him keep track of his stuff in the future, but I know my son better than that! He's only been in school 2 1/2 months and already we've gone through two lunchboxes, a sweatshirt, a pair of shoes (!?!- I have no idea why!), and a coat.
Guess I'm still hoping someone has found the magic solution for getting them to keep track of their things. Also, the first question was totally serious- does anyone know which is better for the environment?
