Challenges gettng up in the AM? | ADHD Information

My guy has always had challenges getting up in the morning primarily due to the meds he's taking: Depakote ER, Invega (risperdal extended release) and dexidrine ER.  We've done everything from kisses, singing, loud radios to misting him and cold wash cloths.  After 10 to 15 minutes we finally get him up and some what moving.  Does this sound familiar?

Anyway we've recently done some med changes that have made the morning better.  So I figure I'd share them with you.

First, we wake him 45 minutes before he needs to get up and give him his focusing meds, then we let him go back to sleep;  the rest we give after he's up.

Second and probably more important, is that we have switched all of his evening meds from long lasting (extended release) to the short lasting equivalent.  Yea it's a hassle keeping two sets of the same med, but it works and they are out of his body by the time he wakes up.

wait?!?! There really IS such a thing?!?! NO WAY!! I've been wondering if there was something like this for my own son and if this is really true, I'll be bringing it up to his specialist next month!

Yea there is, it comes in 3, 6 and 9mgs  and works really well.  Just remember that as with any long lasting med, it takes a bit longer to reach it's max efficency level but stays there longer.  Often, doctors will give a fast acting with a long lasting so as to kick start the med, but  that varies on each situation
