spamula and stillsane,
thanks so much for your response. i just started an anti depressant today. OMG...I'm trying not to get too upset. I worry about meds with kids. He's on concerta for the adhd but his "down" mood is my concern. i believe that if his mood was a bit happier, it will help him. i didn't think an increase in the adhd med was the answer..just my motherly instinct there and after sharing that I have a concern of some sad mood, his father (we're divorced) said he saw it and his teacher said that she saw it. His pchychiatrist said we can treat him for this as it's common to experience this with adhd. I just hate trying this med, trying that med. I worry for his well being. I want to help him, his adhd affects so much of his life. This child deserves quality of life. I just wondered if others have had this experience and I appreciate your input.
spamula - doesn the zoloft help your son with his moods???
kathy,
My sister has a daughter who is 12 with adhd and yes it did give her a little depression. She was not on medication at that time, but once she was put on the right kind she was able to do much better and her confidence in herself went up (along with her grades). Although for her it wasn't easy. She has a sister who is 1 year older than her who is perfect in every way (those were her words). Beautiful, popular, skinny (so she says) and perfect grades and everyone loves her. I think along with trying to struggle with school and social problems in school, watching that didn't help much either. And made it very tough on my sister to be fair with both.
My son 11 has depressed moods but it is a coexsisting disorder not from the adhd. We treat it seperatly with Zoloft. The zoloft has helped his moods quite a bit but now with the Vyvanse I believe it isn't working as well. We plan to probably take him off the Vyvanse and replace it with something else. He has done great on the Zoloft for 2 years. I just don't think that Vyvanse is the right med for him, and I also do not like bouncing around with meds.
