HI THERE! i am sorry no one has answered your post yet. i do know that the strattera can cause the sleepiness but how much is normal i do not konw.
i do know that they make a 10 mg as well and maybe you could ask for that and work him up slowly to the 18 or maybe he would do good on a 10 as i have heard of others on that low dose and doing well too.

I PUT MY 12 YEAR OLD ON STRATTERA FOUR DAYS AGO. THE FIRST DAY HE WAS SO TIRED. HE NEVER CAME HOME BEFORE AND TOOK A NAP . HE SLEEPS ON THE WAY TO PLACES IN THE CAR. THE FIRST DAY WE WERE STUDING AND HE WAS DAZED. I WONDER MHY I AM DOING THIS TO MY SON. HE IS A GREAT KID EVERYONE LOVES HIM, HE IS REAL POPULAR AT SCHOOL. HE HAS TROUBLE IN SCHOOL SITTING STILL AND FOCUSING. HE IS NOT ORGANIZED AT ALL. HOME WORK TAKES FOREVER TO DO. HE WAS SEEN BY THE DOCTORAND WE WERE TOLD IT IS ADHD. I NEW ALL ALONG THAT IT IS WHAT HE HAD I WAS THE SAME WAY GROWING UP. I WANT TO TAKE HE OFF THE MEDS AND ITS ONLY BEEN 4 DAYS. DOCTOR STARTED HIM ON 18 MGS. VERY CONSERVATIVE I DONT LIKE THE IDEA OF DURGING MY CHILD BUT IT IS HARD FOR HIM TO FOCUS IN SCHOOL . I WAS TOLD THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS HE MAY BE SLEEPY BUT HOW SLEEPY IS SLEEPY. HE PUTS HIS HEAD DOWN ON HIS DESK, TEACHERS SAY HE NEVER EVER DID THAT BEFORE

My 7 year old daughter started on 10 mg. of Strattera two days ago. The first day she was tired and sleepy, but yesterday wasn't quite as bad. We're supposed to bump her up to 18 mg. in two weeks.
We purposley waited to start Strattera (she was on Adderall XR) during Christmas break so that the side effects would hopefully even out by the time school starts back.

thank you LJWH my son was bumped up to 25 mg yesterday. He is doing
great right now. I guess I was realy leary with all the warnings that always come out on all the prescrip. drugs.
