Thanks for your reply. I know..I said this would be the medicine to help my son the more expensive one...and i was right.

I broke the capsule because our Dr told me too. Even on the insert that comes with the meds it said that this medication can be opened up and added to food, so that's why I did that. I have seen others that say not to open them up so I would never do that to those. Thanks for the tip on bending forward to swollow capsules..I guess I never really thought about it. There is always a reason for asking questions I guess.

I am not sure what medicine my methelyn is generic for. My bottle from Kroger never tells me the name brand so that doesn't help. I have not taken concerta so that excludes that one. I'm not on asthma meds at all so that's a good thing too.

I'm going to do what you suggest and print out the full page of acceptable meds for adhd to give to our Dr.

Is there any meds that do not give you dry mouth when added to celexa? Anyone on celexa and doing ok with that?

Thanks again for your help.

Okay, my bad Thanks for clarifying

I learned that from a nurse friend when I kept gagging on antibiotic capsules. It helped enormously.

I looked it up. It's one of the generic names for Ritalin.

Hope it helps!

Almost everything gives you "dry mouth" to some degree. Strattera drove me nuts.

Thanks again for your help.

There are special lozenges, toothpastes and mouthwashes at drug stores for dry mouth. Have you tried any of them?

If you do--let me know if they're any good. I could use them myself!

You never have to apologize for long posts on this forum. We are all chatterboxes

But for my sake though, I ask you break up the paragraphs

Hello..

I am in desperate need of input on medications. My 10 yr old son is on his first month of adderall xr(or whatever the long acting letters are :)) 25mg and doing a bit better for the most part. He has brought his grades up since the change from concerta a month ago. We go back to the psychiatrist next Wed for an update on his medicine and to be honest with you we can not afford an extra .00 a month for his medication even though it does work better than concerta or the methelyn he took before. We have choices on our prescription plan but I'm not sure what to recommend to the Dr to try, I know he gives me what he wants, but he also apparantly didn't think about the cost of the one he's on now.

Find out what is covered on your drug plan. Print out the list for the doctor and take it with you. That way, he can look down it and help you make a decision. Also, some drug plans have a contingency that if the covered drugs do NOT work, for some medications you can fill out a special form and request an exception. Speak to your provider.

If the child is doing well on adderal, I would hesitate to change it. But you all have to eat, too

I am on adhd medication as well and also at a loss for what to try for myself. I have been on methlyn 20mg two times a day

Are you speaking of Ritalin SR-generic or regular Ritalin-generic or concerta?

but usually only take it on my college days Mon and Wed and only 1x a day (so my meds last a LOT longer than they should). I am also on celexa for depression and have an absolute terrible reaction to both of these meds combined. My mouth gets so dry that my tongue literally cracks and occasionally bleeds as well as having a few canker sores on it after taking the meds to many days in a row.  I took 1 1/2 pills (30 mg at one time instead of 20mg 2x) yesterday to help me focus during class (which has completely stopped working for me, I feel NO effects at all anymore) and my tongue is so sore that I can hardly eat again.

Are you craving fruit and fruit juice on these drugs, as well?

This is not the only time it's happened either, it was so sore that I didn't eat for 2 straight days except for soft foods. Why still take them is a good question huh?! Well when this was happening I was using what I had left over from my sons prescription of the same thing and mg in an effort to save some money as well as all the ones I wasn't taking for an evening dose. I just wanted to keep with it long enough to get through this quarter at school myself. Now it's time to go back to Dr for a new script for me and my son but I am so unsure of what to get. I think my reaction could be do to my celexa as well as an iron pill I take but DO remember symptoms BEFORE starting celexa and iron pill so I know it's methelyn related, possibly aggrivated by the other meds..who knows, I'm not sure.

I get some dry mouth from Ritalin SR. If you are on any asthma meds that will be a problem for mouth infections. Also, don't use mouthwash because it drys the membranes with alcohol.

Speak to your doctor as well because you may have an oral yeast infection caused by the medication inducing dry mouth.

They will give you that horrible banana tasting crap for kids but it DOES work

I need to have generic for my son and I so could anyone suggest any to try. For myself it could be 2x a day, but for my 10 yr old he gags swollowing pills and fights to not take them..

Try getting him one of those kid's med pill taking cups. It may save you a lot of grief.

ideally I would like something long acting and capsule form to break open in pudding or at least capsule form to go down smoother. Could you Please give me input on how they worked for you or whoever, and whether they are long acting or capsule. THANK YOU SOOOO VERY MUCH and sorry for the long post.

You should not be breaking capsules into food. Capsules are designed for time-release so when you break them open, there's too much medication processing through the liver at the beginning of the dose, and not enough at the end of the dose.

The trick with capsules is to bend forward when you take them, so the air in them causes them to slide upwards into the throat. Regular pills work on gravity down, and that's why you toss your head back to tip them back into the throat.

Good luck and let us know what happens with the drug card and the doctor
