average dose for adderall xr??? | ADHD Information

is there an average dose that most people are on for adderall xr?  i am currently taking 10 mgs and i feel sort of ok on it.

i get real chatty after about a few hours or so.  other then that i do not really feel much and i do not feel that drop that so many talk about when it wears off.

so maybe this dose is not high enough yet?  i was on 5 mgs of ritalin but developed some itchy bumps so had to quit to see if that was what it was/is.

i really felt the small dose of ritalin, i could feel within 20 minutes my mood uplifted and i felt more compassion towards people too...so that was all good.

i have only been on the adderall xr for day two now...i have to wait till tuesday to talk to my dr. and see what he has to say about this..

I am not an expert on adderall, but our son is about 45 pounds (6 years old) and he was taking 10 mg for 6-8 months and we have bumped him up to 15 mg recently. I am not sure if you need more, the more you weigh, but our pediatrician said the usual dose is around 20 mg. Check out the web site for the company that make adderall and see what it says there.

Adderall and adderall xr (along with other stims) are not based on size/weight. Instead, they are based on the individual's brain's metabolism for the drug. There is no way to say a "usual dose" because of the variation. A 9 year old may need a higher dose than a 35 year old, etc. As with any med, you want the lowest effective dose. This is especially true with adderall because your body will build up a tolerance to the drug. If you take a higher dose than needed from the start, then your body will build tolerance to that, rather than a lower effective dose. It is a good thing that you don't feel a "drop" as the med wears off, not every person does.
