New here | ADHD Information

Hi, I am brand new. My son is 7.5 years old and has been diagnosed with ADHD (both inattentive and hyper) for just over a year. He has exhibited symptoms, though, since he was at least 3 or 4. He takes Metadate--10 mg until this month when we moved to 20 mg. It works very well for him in addition to fairly strict routines, posted rules/visual aids/charts, and consistent rewards/consequences.

I am an educator and even knowing the "rules" on how to get a diagnosis, the "right" questions to ask the doctor, etc., I found the whole process grueling and frustrating! We don't have an IEP/504, since our son does fine just with medication and behavior modification--at least for the present.

Anyway, I am glad to be a resource for others. I posted a message a few minutes ago in another section (hope it was the right one) about the difficult situation with grandparents. Maybe someone can give me some advice.

Thanks,

dee
So where is the other post???? what kind of problems are you having???????It's up under Biggest topics of concern. LSS: Grandparents are old fashioned, don't think ADHD is anything other than "bad parenting, bad kid."

Believe me, I know avoidance is the best solution. But this is reality--we can't always avoid contact. So--I am looking for positive ways to endure the time we have to spend with them--education? Explanation? Putting the responsibility back on them to be accepting?

Thanks!

Dee
Welcome aboard Dee!

Sounds like you handled it all very well. Glad his meds and program are working out.

You requested advice--but about what? What can we help you with?
Working with grandparents! It has been a chore, sigh.

Thanks for the welcome. :)
