So hyper in the evening! | ADHD Information

It sounds like the effects of coming off the meds.  My child had similar issues.  He started guanfacine (generic for Tenex) to help control impulsivity and hyperactivity during the evenings.  It's not as effective as the stimulant, but it definitely helps.  My child also has anxiety issues, and the guanfacine has had the added benefit of reducing his anxiety.

Before possibly asking the dr. about adding another med., I'm stick with the new med. for awhile and see what happens.  Then, make further adjustments if needed.  In the meantime, try to structure things as much as possible, and try to keep them as low key as possible to reduce overstimulation.

Mom2ADHDboy39791.8835532407Ashley has this as well, it is her coming down off the stimulant meds (aka 'rebound'). Some meds are worse than others (we have tried Adderall, Daytrana, Tenex, Straterra and a couple others).

Your child's dr may be able to prescribe a short acting pill that can handle the effects of the rebounding if you find it is more than you can handle. Best advice is to ask him or her about the situation!

Best of luck.

My DS 8 has been taking Medadate 20mg for 2 weeks now and just the past 3-4 days after school until bedtime he is all over the place and so hyper. I have not seen this before. he seemed calmer in the evening before taking the meds. seems odd doesnt it? he is hyper, acting too silly, ugh!! I want to loose my mind until he goes to bed. stressful..

Have you asked the doc about this?  I agree, call the doc and tell them what is happening, it could be a side effect!
