Side effects normal? | ADHD Information

18mg is low, it is the lowest for concerta. We lasted ONE day on it and moved up immediately, and then again and again.

DS is still on concerta, 90mgs. He is now 11 1/2 and been taking it since 7.

One of two things, either dose is too low and he needs an increase or it is not the med for him.

My son became aggitated, looked stoned with the dialated eyes, irritable, angry on Adderall XR. These meds don't work the same for every individual.

I would try a few increases before I switched. You will then know the med is not the best choice for your son. There is definetly a med for your son out there, it is just process of elimination unfortunately.

Maybe adderall xr is better for your son. There is a difference between the two, but I do not recall to write about it. Someone else would know, like Diane V. She is awesome with meds.

Let the doctor know what is happening with him obviously. Good luck.

It took us almost 6 months to level off, but first of all we found the med then had to keep playing with the dosing until we got it just right. Hang in there, it is worth it!!

Hi,

My son was diagnosed last year.  We decided to medicate. Tried Ritalin 5mg once in the morning and it actually worked!  the problem was that it wore off by noon.  The Dr. switched him to Concerta 18mg for the long lasting effect.  the problem is I don't really know if we like it.  It seems to me that he is more emotional (i.e. cries at the drop of a hat) and his teacher noted that he seems more anxious during class.  Any other parents share this concern and have any advice?  I'm just not sure if this is the best we're gonna get...I guess my question is can you really give meds for ADHD combined type and have NO side effects?

Also, has anyone noticed a rebound?  Meaning when the meds have worn off it seems as though their energy level triples?

Have you brought that back up with the doc?

And yes, when some meds wear off on some people/kids they will have either a "drop" or a rebound.

Did the doc consider Ritalin SR [long acting ritalin] or perhaps a  noon dose of ritalin?
