Hey all-
Sorry I've been gone for the last few months. Things have been crazy around here. We moved to base housing because we thought it would be better for Emily to be able to go out and play. WE WERE WRONG!! She had to switch schools and now she is being bullied.
That's not even the worst part. She dropped 6 lbs in a month. I think it is all the stress from the bully and school's not going to hot. So, my DH took her to the dr today to get her meds filled and they dropped her meds from 54 mg of Concerta to 18 mg. Isn't that just crazy??? She can't even function on 18 mg. They said if she brings her weight up they will increase it back. What kind of game to they think they are playing here???
I'm so upset right now I can't hardly stand it. So anyway I get to deal with her grades dropping and her being an emotional mess (because they decided to not also fill her Zoloft). I HATE LIVING IN JAPAN!!!!
Can anyone give me some ideas for her to pack on some pounds really fast??
How is everyone?? I've missed this place so much!!
Thanks,
Jamie
Poor thing
bullies are the worst!
Does she like ice cream? we used carnation instant breakfast with bananas and ice cream. I didn't worry about him eating late when the meds wore off so he would gain some weight.
What is school doing about the bully? Can she change teachers, schools, etc?
Yeah I feel really bad for her.
She LOVES ice cream. I made her strawberry milk shakes tonight. I used whole milk instead of the regular 2% that we usually use. I got the carnation today and I'm going to make that for her in the morning as a milk shake. I also got her cheese and whole wheat bread (per her dr).
We've addressed the bully issue with the school and told them that if the girl touches her Emily has been told by us that she is to fight back and they said that is perfectly fine and she would not get in trouble for it.
Unfortunately we are stationed in Japan and she only has the one school that she can go to. There is another school but it is at the other housing 30 min away and she can only go to this one since this is where we live and there is only 1 other 4th grade class and it is completely full.
The girl did get talked to by the principle but I don't know if it did any good. The girl is also forbidden from sitting anywhere near my dd while at school. I believe the school is doing all they can at this point (they have had several complaints about this child). I believe the parents really need to step in and do something but they don't. If it continues my husband is ready to take it up with base security (which is what he does) to force them to send the family back to the states. This child is completely out of control.
Our dd stands up to this girl, has tried to befriend her, and even tried to explain to her that if she continues being mean to everyone she won't have any friends. But it just seems to be getting worse. At this point dd is just waiting for this girl to hit her so she can take her down so that she will finally understand that just because she is small does not mean she can push her around. That sounds aweful but she has finally had too much. Heck, she even asked to be home schooled so she didn't have to put up with it anymore. I wish that was even an option but we can barely make it as it is with both of us working.

Jamie, let us know how it goes with the carnation. I hope she likes it. Feed her whatever she will eat. She needs all the calories she can get. And it sounds like it doesn't matter how!
The bullies stink. It does sound like you and your husband have a hand on things with the school. maybe the other child needs to be sent someplace else to work out her issues, which is obvious that she has.
Her parents need to get involved. But when it comes into your house, you have to protect your own. Momma bear tends to come in me!
Let us know how you guys are doing in Japan!!

Another way to encourage weight gain is to add powdered milk to her regular milk--just a way to "pack in" a little more to what she is already consuming... I learned about that little trick on the Univ. of Michigan website for athletes.
